Although it is primarily about the Yankees, as it should be, every aspect of Yankee Stadium history is included, from the New York Giants, two Papal visits, college football and boxing. It's all here in glorious detail...fine, excellent writing and photos almost beyond compare.From the Babe, Lou's farewell, Larsen's perfect game, Maris' homerun, Mr. October, Joe Torre and the great Yankee teams of late, all are there, all presented in an interesting and appropriate manner...Not too much of this, just enough of that to evoke nostalgia of the highest degree...nostalgia, not maudlin thought or regret.And if you have any doubt that the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry is the greatest in American sport, read this book and you will know, you will be convinced that it is true.But this is not a book for Yankees lovers only; it is a book for all baseball fans and others who want to, as the Lone Ranger might say, "Return to those thrilling days of yesteryear..."One of the more interesting parts of the book is a one page account of why Yankee Stadium had to be torn down...It had nothing to do with money and luxury boxes. It had everything to do with a stadium that was showing its age and crumbling around itself, especially on Bat Day, a very interesting bit of information.
Wish the cover would have been in better shape. I also have had to use tape to keep book in order. But, if you lovethe Yankees and can get a new book, you will love this.
I bought this book for my Son, Will - one of his many Christmas gifts; he's a Yankees fan. I'm a long suffering Reds fan, but can't blame him. Unlike my team over the past ten-plus years, the Yanks management wants to win.At any rate, I have to say that I've always been somewhat of a Yankees' fan as well - this speaks to my appreciation for baseball history. Yankee Stadium plays a LARGE part of that.This book covers so much of Yankees' history in that stadium, as well as other memorable sporting events. This is worth the cost for the book, and my son appreciates it very much.AmericanSoldier
All true NYY fans will love this book. This "coffee table" book has great insight into the history of Yankee Stadium. The photography alone is worth the price of the book - it makes you realize what a tremendous part of baseball, and history, this stadium has been. The interviews and memories of many great Hall Of Famers and future Hall Of Famers are a joy to read. I highly recommend this retrospective on an American treasure. What a loss!!!
My husband who has been a Yankee fan ever since he was a little boy loved this book I bought it as a gift for him. I originally saw it on QVC in a box for about $76 with shipping and since I don't buy any books without consulting Amazon first I checked it out. Who needs a box for an extra $40. My husband said it brought back lots of memories and the pictures are fantastic .He was thrilled I thought of this for him.
Great book and a must-have for true Yankee fans and baseball purists alike. A true send off to the Cathedral of baseball. The stadium played host to many historic events besides yankee baseball, but will always be remembered for the many great moments in pinstripe history. A definitive account of the big old ballpark in the bronx. This book is excellent!!!
Very nice coffee table took on the original "House that Ruth Built."
